Hotel Asia Exhibition

The 20th Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge, one of the largest and longest-running events dedicated to the Maldives' tourism and food industries, is set to commence today.

Organised by Maldives Exhibition and Conference Services (MECS), the exhibition will be held at the Hulhumale Synthetic Track from September 28 to 30. Additionally, the International Culinary Challenge is scheduled to take place at the Maldives National University (MNU) in Male' from September 27 to 30.

During the early years of the Hotel Asia Exhibition, the Maldivian tourism industry was heavily reliant on foreign suppliers. At the time, approximately 80 percent of the goods and services required by resorts were sourced by attending various trade fairs held abroad.

The objective of launching this exhibition was to address these challenges by providing a platform where suppliers, hotel operators, and industry professionals could connect under one roof.

Over the years, the Hotel Asia Exhibition has played a pivotal role in providing food products, kitchen equipment, and operational services to the Maldives' resorts, hotels, guesthouses, safaris, and restaurants.

Organisers noted that the growth of Hotel Asia symbolises the transformation of the Maldives into a world-class tourism destination. What began with just 40 companies has today become the most trusted hub where suppliers, buyers, chefs, and industry leaders converge.

As the Maldivian tourism sector expanded and attracted international brands and suppliers, the Hotel Asia Exhibition evolved rapidly alongside it. Consequently, the event, which had been held biennially since 2008, transitioned into a major annual fixture on the industry calendar.
