The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office today filed Qazf charges at the Criminal Court against a former female employee of the President’s Office.
The PG Office confirmed to Adhadhu that the 24-year-old woman has been charged with the offence of Qazf (falsely accusing someone of unlawful sexual intercourse).
The individual had previously been summoned by the police on suspicion of being the interviewee featured in the documentary "Aisha", produced by Adhadhu. The charges filed today stem from that investigation.
As the charges were brought against her today, the former employee has alleged that a cabinet minister in the current administration contacted her to issue threats. She further alleged that a member of the President’s family has been harassing her family in various ways.
The state has also filed Qazf charges against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and Editor Hassan Mohamed in connection with the same documentary. Hearings for that case are currently ongoing in a closed-door trial at the Criminal Court.
The individual interviewed in the "Aisha" documentary alleged that she had an extramarital affair with President Mohamed Muizzu. Following questions posed to Muizzu regarding these allegations, Adhadhu journalist Mohamed Shahuzan was sentenced to 15 days in prison.
Additionally, Adhadhu journalist Leevan Ali Nasir was sentenced to 10 days in prison for allegedly violating a gag order related to the case.
