Police have launched an investigation into a mugging and assault involving an expatriate in Raa Maduvvari.
Authorities said no arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident, which involved the robbery and physical assault of an expatriate woman.
Footage circulating on social media suggests that the perpetrator who attacked and robbed the woman is a Bangladeshi male.
Crimes committed by foreign nationals in the Maldives have been on the rise. Authorities have been making arrests in various cases and deporting those found involved in criminal activities.
According to police statistics, 108 cases of robbery have been reported so far this year, five of which were filed during the current month.
