A group of individuals, including the uncle of First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and members of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), obstructed and assaulted Raajje TV journalists while they were filming a program in Dhaalu Meedhoo.
Amir Saleem, Head of Programs at Raajje TV, told Adhadhu that the crew was confronted while filming "Haalu Kihineh," a program documenting the living conditions of citizens.
"While we were filming, a group arrived, including Abdulla Latheef, a member of the First Lady’s family; Khalid, the president of the PNC steering committee in Meedhoo; and Ali Shareef, the former vice president of the Meedhoo Council," Amir said.
"They sat where we were stationed, began shouting and using profanity, and the situation eventually escalated into physical violence."
Amir further stated that the group drove a motorcycle into the chair where Raajje TV cameraman Mohamed Anil was seated. He added that the group also attempted to physically attack the crew members.
However, Amir clarified that the actual physical altercation took place between the group and residents of Meedhoo who were accompanying the film crew.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, and footage of the confrontation is currently circulating on social media. The police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
