The Coast Guard has rescued a foreign national who jumped into the sea from the Sinamalé Bridge.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the incident was reported at 12:44 am. MNDF divers were immediately dispatched to the scene to commence a search and rescue operation.
The MNDF stated that the individual was located while clinging to one of the bridge's pillars during the search.
Following the rescue, the individual was handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
Photos released by the MNDF identify the individual as a foreign male. While he did not appear to be in critical condition, authorities have yet to release further details regarding his identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
