Maldives national badminton player Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby) has advanced to the women’s singles Round of 32 at the 2026 Asian Games after delivering a dominant opening-round victory over Mongolia’s Tselmeg-od Enkhlen.
Naby controlled the match from start to finish, securing a convincing 21–8, 21–3 victory to progress in the competition. She will next face Hong Kong’s LO Sin Yan Happy in the Round of 32.
Her progression adds momentum to the Maldives’ singles campaign, with Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) also set to compete in the same stage.
Naba received a bye in the opening round and will begin her women’s singles campaign against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min.
In the men’s singles competition, Zayan Zaki exited in the opening round after losing to Mongolia’s Munkhat Batdavaa in straight games, 21–12, 21–17.
Meanwhile, Nibal Ahmed has advanced to the men’s singles Round of 32, where he will face Sri Lanka’s Nettasinghe Pulikutty.
The Maldives also faced challenging results in the mixed doubles competition, with both national pairs suffering defeats.
The partnership of Naby and Nibal lost to India’s Kapila Dhruv and Crasto Tanisha, 21–8, 21–7. Meanwhile, Naba and Zayan were defeated by Indonesia’s Ramdhanti Siti Fadia Silva and Joaquin Nikolous, 21–8, 21–14.
The Maldivian squad will continue its doubles campaign today, with Zayan Zaki and Nibal scheduled to face South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Ki Dong Ju in the men’s doubles.
In the women’s doubles, Naba and Naby will take on Thailand’s Aimsaard Nuntakarn and Sudjaipraparat Jhenicha.
With Naby and Naba competing in the women’s singles Round of 32, Nibal progressing in the men’s singles, and both doubles pairs continuing their campaigns, the Maldives remains active across multiple badminton events at the 2026 Asian Games.
