Gaborone, Botswana – Fathimath Nabaha (Naba) triumphed over her twin sister, Aminath Nabeeha (Naby), in a thrilling women’s singles final at the Botswana International 2024, securing the Maldives' first-ever singles gold medal in a BWF-sanctioned tournament.
Representing the Maldives National Team under Revival Sports Club, both sisters competed fiercely in the tournament. In the final, Nabaha made history by defeating Nabeeha 2-1 to claim the gold, while Nabeeha's silver medal marks the Maldives' first-ever singles silver in a BWF event.
The final was a hard-fought contest. Naba took the first set 22-20, but Naby responded strongly in the second, winning it 21-14 to level the match. In the deciding third set, Naba maintained her composure, ultimately winning 21-15 to secure the victory.
This is Naba's fourth gold medal in a BWF-sanctioned tournament. Her previous golds include a 2019 win at the Pakistan Tournament, where she claimed both Women’s Doubles (with Naby) and Mixed Doubles (with Zayan Zaki). Last year, Naba also earned bronze medals at the Zambia and Australia Opens.
Naba and Zayan Zaki won silver medal in Botswana International's mixed doubles. They lost the final against Azerbaijan's Agil Gabilov and Era Maftuha by 23-11, 21-18.
Revival Sports won a total of five medals in the Botswana International 2024.
