Allegations have surfaced against First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, accusing her of using her influence to harass and victimise a woman and her family.
The accusations were made by a young woman who formerly worked at the President’s Office. In a social media post, the former employee alleged that the First Lady is "persecuting" her family through various forms of undue influence.
"I sincerely ask you to stop the cruelty you are inflicting upon my family. Every time a member of my family secures a job, they are terminated through your power and influence," the post, which tagged the First Lady, read.
The post further claimed that members of her family have been blacklisted from employment. She claimed she had received information that this blacklisting was being carried out under the direct influence of the First Lady.
"Whether they apply to a hospital, the Maldives Correctional Service, or anywhere else, they are told they are blacklisted due to your [Sajidha’s] influence. As a fellow Muslim, I urge you to stop these inhumane actions," the post continued.
"Stop the cruelty you are inflicting upon this helpless family."
While the former President’s Office staffer alleges ongoing harassment against her family, the police have also withheld her passport under a court order, citing a criminal investigation.
Adhadhu understands that the police have seized her passport and travel documents for the period from August 27 to November 26.
The government has yet to comment on the matter, as the President’s Office Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, did not respond to calls or messages.
