Former Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Mariyam Mariya has been appointed as Ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Ministry.
Adhadhu understands that following her appointment, Mariya has already commenced her duties at the Foreign Ministry.
Mariya, who resigned from her post as Agriculture Minister in April, first served as the Higher Education Minister in the current administration. She transitioned to the Ministry of Agriculture in December 2024.
Mariya was among 10 ministers who resigned from their positions last April. All of the ministers stepped down at the direction of President Mohamed Muizzu.
Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) previously stated that the resignations were not related to a loss of confidence. Instead, he described the move as a restructuring effort to address public sentiment following the results of the recent local council elections.
While many of the ministers who resigned have since been appointed to various other government positions, some have distanced themselves from the administration.
