Heavy rainfall in Addu City has caused significant flooding across major roads.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported significant damage across the southern atolls due to ongoing torrential rain, with Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and the islands of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu Atolls being the hardest hit.

Addu City has suffered the most extensive damage following continuous rainfall that began yesterday morning. In Fuvahmulah City, several areas have experienced flooding, resulting in varying degrees of damage to agricultural fields and residential buildings.

In Feydhoo, reports indicate that floodwaters have entered more than 30 homes. One residence was rendered uninhabitable due to the severity of the flooding, and authorities are currently working to provide emergency temporary housing for the displaced family.

The affected household consists of eight members, including two individuals with special needs. The local council and relevant agencies are actively providing essential relief and support to the family.

Authorities are currently conducting dewatering operations across the islands of Addu City to mitigate the impact of the flooding. Personnel from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service are assisting city councils in these recovery efforts.
