Police have reported that five people were injured in three separate road accidents across Male' and Hulhumale' yesterday.
The first incident occurred at 8:00 am near the Vinares 6 flats in Hulhumale' when a motorcyclist lost control and crashed. According to the police, the rider lost control while attempting to avoid a child who had suddenly stepped onto the road.
"Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle lost control and crashed as the rider swerved to avoid a child who unexpectedly crossed the street. The vehicle did not make contact with the child," police stated.
Later in the afternoon, at 5:10 pm, a collision occurred between a bus and a motorcycle. The 69-year-old male driver of the motorcycle and his 72-year-old female passenger sustained injuries in the crash.
"However, neither individual sustained serious injuries. The police are currently investigating the matter," the authorities added.
The third accident took place at approximately 8:11 pm in Hulhumale' Phase 2, involving a collision between two motorcycles. Police confirmed that no one sustained life-threatening injuries in this incident either.
"Although one individual suffered a laceration to the top of their right foot, no serious injuries were reported," police said.
These accidents follow a tragic incident last Saturday that claimed the life of nine-year-old Zeeva Sinan Ahmed. That fatal accident occurred when a motorcycle crashed after clipping a pedestrian; Zeeva was a passenger on the back of the motorcycle.
It is believed that Zeeva was either struck by an oncoming car or run over by the vehicle after falling from the motorcycle. Police are currently conducting a forensic investigation to determine the exact circumstances of that accident.
