The Vice President of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Youth Wing was arrested last night following a protest held in Male'.
Adhadhu understands that Maimoon was taken into custody under a court order while he was on his way home after the demonstration had concluded.
According to the arrest warrant, Maimoon was detained in connection to an incident during Friday night's MDP protest on Chaandhanee Magu, where he allegedly moved police barricades used to cordone off the street.
Maimoon had previously been arrested in April during another series of MDP protests in the capital. He was later released by the court under specific conditions.
Those conditions included cooperating with the investigation, notifying the court of any changes to his phone number or if he intended to travel out of Male', and refraining from contacting a police officer who was injured during that night's protest.
Last night, the MDP National Council passed a resolution to conduct a series of continuous "direct actions" until President Mohamed Muizzu resigns from office.
Following the conclusion of the National Council meeting where the decision was made, MDP members took to the streets of Male' to protest.
