A nine-year-old girl who was receiving treatment on a ventilator at IGMH following a serious road accident in Hulhumale' last Thursday night has passed away.
The girl's father confirmed her passing in a Facebook post earlier this morning.
The accident occurred near the Vinares 7 flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
According to the police, the accident happened on Hithigas Magu when a motorcycle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to enter a car parked on the side of the road.
The motorcycle, driven by a 19-year-old woman, crashed, causing the nine-year-old passenger to fall. The child sustained a severe head injury, resulting in significant blood loss at the scene.
The child was initially rushed to Hulhumale Hospital. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later transferred to IGMH for further treatment, where she remained on ventilator support until her passing.
According to police statistics, 1,355 accidents were recorded in Male’ and on the bridge highway alone during the first six months of this year (January to June). This accounts for an average of 7.49 accidents per day.
