A nine-year-old child injured in a serious road accident in Hulhumale' was placed on a ventilator last night.
According to the police, the accident occurred near Vinares Tower 7 in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Authorities confirmed that the victim is a nine-year-old girl.
An official from Hulhumale' Hospital told Adhadhu that the child is currently being treated on a ventilator and remains in critical condition.
Police said that the accident occurred when a motorcycle struck a person who was attempting to board a car parked on the side of the road.
"Preliminary reviews of CCTV footage from the area indicate that the accident occurred when a motorcycle traveling on Hithigas Magu hit a person walking on the roadside to board a car parked near Vinares 7," the police said in a message to the media.
According to police statistics, 1,355 accidents were recorded in Male' and the bridge highway alone during the first six months of this year (January to June). This averages to approximately 7.49 accidents per day.
