A total of 670 tonnes of waste was cleared yesterday from the area surrounding the Amaan Dhoadhi towers, which are developed and managed by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
The cleanup, initiated by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), focused on the vicinity of the Dhoadhi towers. In addition to this area, waste remain accumulated across various locations in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
Residents of the area noted that the unusual buildup of waste began when tenants moved into the Amaan towers, citing a lack of adequate waste management arrangements by the relevant authorities at the time.
Malsha Shareef, a Director at HDC, said on social media that the corporation’s cleanup campaign will continue today, targeting various other sectors of Phase 2.
HDC’s initiative to clean Hulhumale' Phase 2 follows a heated social media exchange between government supporters and opposition activists. The debate was sparked by the Male' City Council’s decision to begin fogging Hulhumale' in response to a surge in mosquito breeding across the suburb.
