Male' City Council has passed a resolution offering free venue space to island councils that need to hold official meetings with constituents living in the Greater Male' Region.
Mayor Adam Azim introduced the proposal at yesterday's council meeting and every member present voted for it.
Azim said a large share of atoll populations now live in the capital region, and island councils often struggle to find affordable space to meet them. Free venues are meant to close that gap and strengthen ties between local authorities.
"When councils hold these meetings, providing available spaces under our care alongside hospitality arrangements like refreshments will set a positive example for Male' as a hospitable city," Azim said.
Alifushi Island Council held the first such meeting in the Male' City Council hall yesterday.
