The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has reported that two expatriates remain missing after a landing craft travelling from Kaafu Thilafushi capsized near Kaafu Gaafaru.
The MNDF stated that the Coast Guard is conducting continuous search and rescue operations by both sea and air to locate the missing individuals.
According to the MNDF, search teams have covered an area of 2,747 square nautical miles so far. Additionally, Coast Guard divers have conducted underwater searches at the site where the vessel foundered.
A total of 10 people were on board the landing craft at the time of the incident, including seven expatriates and a Maldivian captain. All survivors were treated at the Gaafaru Health Centre.
Authorities have urged all seafarers to remain vigilant and exercise caution as several regions of the Maldives continue to experience severe weather conditions.
