Mohamed Ahmed has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).
The appointment follows the retirement of the former CEO, Mohamed Hussain Manik, in April.
Mohamed Ahmed joins the authority as a professional with an extensive career spanning several years across the financial sector and various government institutions.
With over 40 years of experience, Mohamed Ahmed possesses a diverse background in banking, economic development, public finance, corporate governance, and institutional management. Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions in both key state institutions and the private sector.
In addition to serving in senior roles at the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Maldives (BML), Mohamed Ahmed has played a significant role in the management of private enterprises, including Solarelle Insurance.
Mohamed Ahmed holds a Master of Business Administration from Durham University Business School in the United Kingdom. He also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
The CMDA is mandated to establish a robust and fair market for the creation, issuance, and trading of securities, while ensuring the protection of the rights of both buyers and sellers within the market.
Furthermore, the authority is responsible for regulating and overseeing the securities market, preventing fraudulent activities in securities transactions, and taking necessary measures to maintain public confidence in the market.
