The referral of patients to Amrita Hospital in India under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme has been suspended following the expiration of the agreement between the Maldives and the hospital.
In an interview with local news outlet Mihaaru, the Managing Director of Aasandha Company confirmed that they have halted sending new applicants to Amrita Hospital for medical treatment. The report further noted that work is currently underway to review and renew the agreement.
"We have temporarily suspended sending new cases," she stated.
However, Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya said that patients currently undergoing treatment at the hospital will continue to receive care without interruption.
Amrita Hospital, located in Kochi, is a major healthcare provider frequently utilized by Maldivian patients seeking treatment under the Aasandha scheme.
While Zeeniya confirmed that the agreement is under review, she did not provide a date for when the matter would be resolved and referrals resumed.
