The Housing Ministry has declined to disclose the breakdown of applicants for the various flat categories under the government’s "Housing for All" policy.
While the government has received a total of 35,930 applications for flats under its "Family Housing" and "Goathigedhoru" programs, officials have withheld the exact number of individuals who applied for the "Affordable" and "Rent-to-Own" models.
When questioned by Adhadhu, the Housing Ministry said that the housing models are subject to change during the ongoing verification process. They added that detailed information will only be shared once the verification phase is complete.
The ministry did not provide a reason as to why the number of applicants for these schemes could not be disclosed, despite the possibility of future adjustments to the housing models.
The ministry further noted that the cross-verification of applications is currently underway. The formal evaluation process is scheduled to commence only after the cross-verification stage is finalized.
The cross-verification process focuses on confirming the authenticity of the documents submitted and the accuracy of the information provided in the applications.
Family Housing Program

Under the Family Housing Program, the government plans to allocate a total of 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats. The land plots are designated for development in Rasmale', while the flats will be located in Hulhumale'.
Land plots under the Family Housing scheme are available to registered residents of Male' and individuals from other islands who have resided in the capital for at least 15 years. Each plot will measure 1,250 square feet.
The land allocation includes 10,000 plots for Male' residents, 3,000 plots for long-term residents from other islands, 500 plots for those deprived of homeownership due to inheritance issues, and 1,500 plots for those living in narrow alleys or on land that is difficult to develop.
Regarding flat allocations, 4,000 units are reserved for Male' residents, 1,500 for non-resident inhabitants of Male', and 2,400 units for special priority categories.
These priority categories include employees of various government offices, the Maldives Police Service, the Maldives National Defence Force, the Maldives Correctional Service, and other state institutions.
