Haleemath Lamha has been found guilty of complicity in the murder of Mary Grace, a nurse who was employed at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The state had charged Lamha with accessory to intentional homicide and unauthorized control over the property of another.

The charge of unauthorized control over another's property was brought against Lamha following allegations that she had taken several dangerous medications from IGMH without authorization.

The Criminal Court ruled today that she is guilty of both charges.

In addition to Lamha, the state also prosecuted Mary Grace’s husband, Marvin S.Y. Vargas, in connection with the case. Marvin was also found guilty today of the intentional murder of Mary Grace.

Filipino nationals Mary and Marvin, and Maldivian national Lamha were all nurses working in the casualty department of IGMH. It is alleged that Lamha and Marvin were involved in a secret romantic affair, but divorce is illegal in the Philippines.

Although Marvin reported that Grace had died by suicide by hanging on October 19, 2021, police continued their investigation due to suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Marvin was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder on October 27, 2021. Lamha was arrested 50 days later, on December 16, 2021.
