The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into three employees of a government school in Male' in connection with a fraudulent embezzlement scheme involving the school’s budget.
Adhadhu understands that the ACC is investigating allegations that salary payments were drawn in the name of a former expatriate employee for approximately five years after they had left their position.
The individuals implicated in the case include the school’s administrator, the human resources manager, and the budget officer. Following an internal inquiry into the conduct of the three employees, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has dismissed them from their posts.
According to a reliable government source, the expatriate worker’s salary had been illicitly deposited into the bank accounts of individuals related to the budget officer since 2021.
"The embezzlement amounts to approximately MVR 1.5 million," the source stated.
The official noted that the discrepancy was first uncovered during a random audit conducted after the Ministry of Education took over the responsibility of approving teacher salaries.
