Corruption allegations have resurfaced against Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain.
The case was first filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) five years ago by former Male' City Councilor Saif Fathih. The complaint alleged that Afeef had registered a private vehicle under a government ministry's garage while serving as the Director General of Public Works.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Saif said that despite the existence of evidence against Afeef, the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office had decided not to press charges. Along with the post, Saif shared an official document from the ACC confirming the conclusion of the investigation.
"Upon investigation of the aforementioned case, this Commission found sufficient evidence to prove a criminal offense and forwarded the matter to the Prosecutor General’s Office requesting corruption charges against the accused. However, as that office decided not to proceed with prosecution, the case has been filed," the ACC document stated.
By law, the ACC is mandated to investigate corruption cases. If the Commission determines there is sufficient evidence to prosecute, the case is forwarded to the PG Office, which holds the authority to decide whether to file charges in court.
