Member of Parliament for the Hithadhoo North constituency, Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), takes his oath of office:

Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), the newly elected Hithadhoo North MP, was officially sworn into office today.

Following his inauguration, Sodiq participated in today's parliamentary session. His induction marks the full restoration of the Parliament's composition since April.

Sodiq secured the Hithadhoo North seat in the recent by-election with 51 percent of the vote, totaling 1,375 ballots. His opponent, Ahmed Saeed (Soda) of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), received 48 percent of the vote, amounting to 1,313 ballots.

Sodiq previously served three consecutive terms as the Mayor of Addu City. This marks his first successful bid for a seat in the People’s Majlis.

Speaking to Adhadhu following his electoral victory, Sodiq stated his commitment to holding the government accountable through the legislative body.

The Hithadhoo North seat became vacant after the Supreme Court ruled on April 12, 2026, that the previous incumbent, Mohamed Sinan, had lost his eligibility for office. The ruling followed Sinan's failure to settle a proven debt in accordance with a court judgment.
