Ooredoo has officially introduced PayPal services to the Maldives today, integrating the global payment platform into its digital wallet, m-Faisaa.
The service was launched at a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention centre in Male', attended by President Mohamed Muizzu, senior government officials, and top executives from Ooredoo.
According to Ooredoo, the introduction of this service will enable Maldivian businesses to accept payments from international customers for the sale of goods and services.
Ooredoo previously explained that once international transfers are received into the PayPal wallet within m-Faisaa, the funds can be transferred to the m-Faisaa USD wallet. These funds can then be withdrawn as cash by transferring them to local banks, such as the Bank of Maldives (BML) and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).
The arrival of PayPal after years of anticipation is expected to open numerous opportunities for freelancers, local artisans, and other small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
