Former President Mohamed Nasheed has commended the hard work of Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem during the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson election, urging young people aspiring to enter politics to follow his example.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Artificial Beach last night to celebrate his election victory, Nasheed said that the courage and effort displayed by Meekail would always be a source of great satisfaction and joy for him. Nasheed secured the Chairperson position with a majority of 68 percent.
"All young people seeking political opportunities should look to that example. You must step forward. Everyone must step forward," Nasheed said, encouraging the youth.
"You should all be involved in the work to save the Maldives. I will always be with you."
Reflecting on the current state of the nation, Nasheed noted that every country faces critical moments that transition it from one state to another, and that the Maldives is currently experiencing such a juncture.
"Tonight is not the end. Tonight is the beginning of something. What we have resolved to do is save this Maldives—to reclaim our prosperity, our peace of mind, and our future," he said.
Referring to his recent travels to the islands, Nasheed remarked that development in rural areas has stalled, injustice is on the rise, and the incompetence of President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is becoming increasingly evident.
