Media reports indicate that Sri Lankan police have apprehended a group involved in the illegal streaming of television channels in the capital, Colombo.
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including a Maldivian national, according to a report by Sri Lanka’s Newswire.
Reports state that the suspects operated under the guise of a travel company. The illegal streaming operation was reportedly being conducted from a building located near Ratmalana Airport.
As the operation was carried out within a high-security zone, police are investigating the matter as a serious security concern.
Authorities seized equipment valued at LKR 50 million from the premises. The confiscated items include satellite receivers, dishes, a Starlink receiver, and other hardware necessary for transmitting channels.
The suspects allegedly utilized data from a private telecommunications provider to run the operation. It is reported that they were selling streaming services to clients both within Sri Lanka and abroad.
