The Foreign Ministry has held discussions regarding the implementation of infrastructure projects in the Maldives with the assistance of the United States government.
Nicole Chulick, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. State Department, is currently on an official visit to the Maldives.
She met with Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam yesterday. According to the Ministry, the discussions focused on further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations.
"Discussions focused on strengthening Maldives – U.S. bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual interest," the Ministry said in a post on X.
Chulick also met with the Maldives' National Security Advisor, Ahmed Latheef, yesterday. The U.S. Embassy noted that the meeting focused on regional security and economic development.
Chulick has held several senior positions within the U.S. State Department. She has also previously served as the National Spokesperson for the U.S. Border Patrol.
Since the current administration took office, ties with the United States have been significantly strengthened. Senior U.S. government officials have been making frequent visits to the Maldives.
In March, Sergio Gor, the U.S. representative for South and Central Asia appointed by President Donald Trump, also met with the Minister of Defence.
