Police have blocked three former presidents from marching to Rasfannu to join protest against the jailing of journalists.
Former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen, and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attempted to lead a group of supporters toward the Rasfannu area after their historic meeting.
However, a large number of police officers in riot gear used shields to obstruct the three former leaders and their supporters, preventing their advance.
Under legal amendments, Rasfannu is designated as one of the areas in Male' where protests can be held without prior permission. This means the police intervention is a violation of the law.
