Statement Following the Meeting of Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih

In light of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's Government's blatant violation of Maldivians' constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights, the exertion of undue influence over the judiciary, the disempowerment of Parliament, the undermining of the independence of state institutions, the suppression of press freedom, the mismanagement of the economy and the resulting decline in the people's standard of living, the rising cost of living and inflation, uncontrolled and wasteful government spending, rampant misconduct within Government, the Government's failure to remedy these wrongs, the erosion of public trust in the Government's ability to responsibly steward the people's funds and assets, the disempowerment of the Maldivian people, and the loss of the democratic values for which Maldivians have long fought — we have agreed to work together to restore the country to a rightful democratic course.
In accordance with this agreement, we call for the immediate release of all journalists and others unlawfully detained, and for the cessation of all unlawful prosecutions against them.
