Former President Abdulla Yameen has called for increased public action against the Muizzu regime.
Yameen made this appeal during a historic meeting held alongside two other former presidents, Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
This marks the first time the three former leaders have sat together to deliberate on matters of national concern.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, Yameen asserted that the current administration has seized control of the Constitution to carry out unlawful acts.
He further accused the police of using disproportionate force to suppress public demonstrations against the government.
He expressed particular concern over the infringement of journalists' rights and the obstruction of freedom of expression.
In this regard, he called on the government to immediately release detained journalists and urged the judiciary to end "gag orders" that restrict free speech.
Reflecting on governance, Yameen acknowledged that his own administration was not perfect. However, he remarked that based on current developments, the country appears to have regressed by twenty years.
The primary objective of the meeting between the three former presidents was to coordinate efforts in defense of journalists and to address major national issues.
