The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group today demonstrated support for Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem in his bid for the party’s chairpersonship.
At a press conference held today, 10 members of the MDP Parliamentary Group officially announced their full endorsement of Meekail’s candidacy.
The members declaring their support include MDP Parliamentary Group Leader and Hithadhoo South MP Ibrahim Nazil, alongside several senior lawmakers. Among them are Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir, Maradhoo MP Ahmed Didi, Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, Kanditheemu MP Ameen Faisal, Maavah MP Ahmed Shakir, Hulhumale South MP Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, Keyodhoo MP Mohamed Niushad, and Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim.
Speaking at the press conference, PG Leader Ibrahim Nazil stated that he has worked closely with Meekail throughout both the 19th and 20th Parliaments. Nazil highlighted that Meekail has consistently played a leading role on the Majlis floor and in various party activities. He further noted that the results of the work carried out by MDP members within Parliament are clearly visible, and that Meekail has been one of his most vital partners in all those efforts.
Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir commended Meekail’s steadfastness and courageous efforts during the party’s time in opposition. Mauroof stated that in every challenge faced by the party, Meekail remained firm in the party’s defense.
Hulhumale South MP Shamheed noted that during the recent campaign, Meekail traveled to more than 100 islands across the Maldives to assess the situation of general members and listen to their concerns. He emphasized that this is a crucial quality for any individual contesting for the position of party chairperson.
