Frequent daily power outages in Haa Dhaal. Nolhivaram have escalated, causing hardship for the island's residents.
Nolhivaram Council President Yoosuf Moosa told Adhadhu that 24-hour electricity is no longer guaranteed on the island, with power cuts occurring an average of six times a day.
"We cannot guarantee 24-hour electricity during the day. Power can go out about six times daily. Even today, the electricity has already cut out twice," he said.
Yoosuf Moosa noted that the recent surge in power outages is due to the grid's inability to sustain the load. He added that these electrical issues have become a common occurrence since the end of Ramadan.
"The load cannot be maintained because the generators are too small; they simply cannot provide the amount of electricity required by the public. This has been recurring continuously for about two or three months now. The problem has intensified significantly since Ramadan," he explained.
Yoosuf Moosa stated that the council has held multiple discussions with Fenaka Corporation to resolve the issue and has fulfilled all requests made by the utility provider. This includes allocating land for the installation of new transformers as requested.
Information received by Adhadhu indicates that the frequent power cuts in Nolhivaram have resulted in damage to electronic appliances in several households. It is understood that these grievances and losses have been shared with Fenaka.
The residents of Nolhivaram are calling for an urgent solution to the island's electricity crisis. The deteriorating state of the power supply remains a major concern for the local community.
