Amjad Musthafa, the Chief Administrator of the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) and the top administrative official of the judiciary, resigned from his post yesterday.
In his resignation letter, Amjad stated that he is stepping down for personal reasons. The letter did not provide further details.
Amjad was appointed as the Chief Administrator of the DJA by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), assuming the role on February 19, 2025. He has previously served as the President of the Employment Tribunal, a board director at the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), and the Vice President of the Elections Commission (EC).
The Department of Judicial Administration is the primary body responsible for the administrative management of Maldivian courts, operating under the guidance of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court.
Amjad’s resignation comes as President Mohamed Muizzu announced during a press conference that the government is considering restructuring the DJA to end its current oversight by the JSC.
