Detainee found dead in Male' Custodial Facility

An individual in police custody at the Male’ Custodial Facility has passed away.

In a message to the media, the police stated that the detainee was discovered collapsed inside his cell yesterday afternoon. According to the police, he was immediately rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

However, police confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The authorities stated that the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC) have been notified of the incident.

The police are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter.
