The state-owned fish company, MIFCO, is shortening its office hours and considering further measures to cut costs due to the Iran war.
More than a month after the war began, MIFCO announced the measures amid rumors that measures will be implemented after the April 4 elections.
MIFCO said the company's head office and administrative offices will be open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm from today (April 6). Previously, offices were open until 4:00 pm.
MIFCO Media Officer Shifza Musthafa said the fans, ACs and lights in the office will be turned off after official hours.
Employees who need to work after official hours will need written permission. Cost-cutting measures will be taken in a way that protect employee rights,” she said.
Although the official hours of MIFCO's administrative employees have been shortened, there will be no change in operations, the company said.
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company is one of the oldest state-owned companies, but it continues to face many operational problems and relies on government subsidies due to losses.
