Maldives National Bodyboarding Team Set for Historic Debut

Male' Maldives: Five athletes from the Maldives National Bodyboarding Team are set to represent the nation at the Morocco World Bodyboard Championship 2026, an International Bodyboarding Corporation (IBC) World Tour event organized by the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation (FRMS) and sanctioned by the IBC.

The championship marks a historic milestone for Maldivian bodyboarding, as it will be the first overseas appearance by the national team since its official formation in 2020.

While Maldivian athletes have previously competed internationally on an individual basis, this event represents the first time the country will be represented by a unified national squad, an achievement widely regarded as a major step forward for the sport.

Members of the team have expressed pride and excitement at the opportunity to compete together under the national team banner, highlighting the significance of representing the Maldives as a collective on the world stage.

The national squad traveling to Morocco comprises:

Aamin Umar Moosa – Senior Team Athlete

Ali Khushruwan Ahmed – Senior Team Athlete

Mohamed Kaif – Senior Team Athlete

Ashraf Hassan – Senior Team Athlete

Eyan Ahmed – Junior Team Athlete

The delegation will be led by Hassan Rasheed (Rush), who will serve as Team Manager for the Morocco event and is also the General Secretary of the Maldives Bodyboarding Association.

Competition is scheduled to begin with the Junior Division from 31 January to 1 February, followed by the Men’s Division from 2 to 12 February. The team is set to depart for Morocco on 23 January, with preparations currently underway.

As a key stop on the IBC World Tour, the Morocco World Bodyboard Championship offers valuable international exposure and world ranking points, making it an important platform for athletes aiming to establish themselves on the global circuit.

Team Maldives enters the championship with strong international credentials. At the Visit Maldives Pro 2022, Aamin Umar Moosa secured a second-place finish in the Junior Division, while Ali Khushruwan Ahmed claimed third place in the Dropknee Division.

During the 2023 IBC World Tour season, Aamin competed in four international events and finished ranked 10th in the World Junior Rankings. Junior athlete Eyan Ahmed has also represented the Maldives at two international competitions, gaining valuable experience at the international level.

The upcoming championship is expected to be a defining moment for Maldivian bodyboarding, reflecting the sport’s steady growth and the nation’s increasing presence on the international stage.
