Male' Maldives: Aamin Umar Moosa has won the National Bodyboarding League title for the first time in his career, while Eyan Ahmed also won the National Bodyboarding League junior title for the first time.
Ahmed Aamin has crowned a remarkable year by capturing the Senior Men’s National Bodyboarding League title, fulfilling what he described as a long-held dream. After years of persistent effort, Aamin said this season unfolded exactly as he had hoped, calling the achievement one of the defining moments of his career.
Junior League champion Eyan expressed similar pride, noting that winning the title in the same season as Aamin, whom he considers “like a brother”, made his accomplishment even more meaningful. He said he had always hoped to share such a milestone alongside Aamin.
Aamin, the Junior Division champion in both 2022 and 2023, made an exceptional transition to the senior ranks this year. He set the tone early by winning the Burunu Shikaaru Bodyboarding Challenge and the Labera Bodyboarding Challenge, defeating the nation’s most decorated bodyboarder, Ali Khusruwan Ahmed (Kuda Ayya), in both finals.
His momentum was halted in the semi-finals of the National Bandufilaa Challenge, where he was eliminated by Ashraf Hassan, who went on to claim the event title by defeating Kuda Ayya in the final. This marked Ashraf’s second major win over Kuda Ayya, having also beaten him in the 2023 Burunu Shikaaru final.
Despite the setback, Aamin finished atop the National League standings with a commanding 20-point margin over runner-up Kuda Ayya, who secured second place in all three Men’s Open events this season. Kuda Ayya continued to assert his mastery in the Dropknee discipline, winning the category once again at the Bandufilaa Challenge and maintaining his perfect record of never having lost a Dropknee final, a consistency that highlights his status as one of the sport’s most complete athletes.
Looking ahead, Aamin will now join Kuda Ayya, Ashraf Hassan, and Mohamed Kaif in next year’s National Bodyboarding Squad, forming a strong team to represent the Maldives.
In the Masters division of the National Bandufilaa Challenge, Ibrahim Shiman secured first place, followed by Abdulla Jameel and Ahmed Afnan, closing out a highly competitive and memorable season for Maldivian bodyboarding.
