Former Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim has launched his campaign to seek the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket to contest next year's local council elections.
His campaign was launched on Thursday night.
Azim said he would continue to demand economic freedom to the people of Male' and announced his vision to transform Male' into a smart city.
Azim, who served three terms as a lawmaker, said he would easily win the MDP ticket with the support of the people as a first step to win the mayoral election.
“With Allah's will, with your support and cooperation, I will win this election easily,” Azim said.
Ali Azim contested and was elected on the MDP ticket to the 19th People's Majlis. However, he was expelled from the party due to political conflict.
He then joined the Democrats led by former President Mohamed Nasheed. But he rejoined the MDP on January 11.
Mayor Adam Azim is also seeking the MDP ticket to run in the local council elections to be held early next year.
