The police are seeking criminal charges against opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council member Hussain Hassan for taking a photograph during a police operation.
Hussain told Adhadhu that the case had been sent to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office.
"They want to charge me for taking photographs of a police drug operation," he said.
Police want charges for obstructing police duty, disobedience to police orders and assaulting police.
Hussain was arrested on September 10 after he took a photo during a police operation on the road.
During the remand hearing, police told the court that Hussain was arrested because he took photographs during a police operation, for refusing to delete the photos and attempting to take more pictures.
According to the remand request filed by the police in the Criminal Court, Hussain was arrested on charges of committing 14 offences. These include charges of touching, hitting, soliciting and attempting to commit a crime.
Witnesses told Adhadhu that police did not use crime scene tape to stop the public from entering the area of the operation.
