Former Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed has called for a national unity government after stopping President Mohamed Muizzu from violating the constitutional system.
Speaking at a gathering of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to prepare for the November 17 rally, Waheed said former Presidents have a duty to speak against the violations.
He also called on Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and ruling People's National Congress (PNC) MPs to step forward and take action.
"If you want a political future, come forward," Waheed stated.
He also called on the young PNC MPs not to give up their political careers and the future of their children for Muizzu.
"To the leaders of the Maldives, to the former leaders and to all those with national honor, I would like to say that today the Maldives is in need of a government of national unity,” Waheed added.
Waheed also criticized the government for not allowing councilors to voice their concerns in public gatherings with Muizzu and for launching projects without a strategy.
"Even if it's just two dry stones, two tombstones in a cemetery, they are cutting ribbons for it," he stated.
