The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced a rally for November 17 if the current regime fails to fulfil the demands made on October 3.
The resolution by Hoarafushi constituency President Ahmed Saleem, and supported by Naifaru Constituency President Abdullah Rasheed Hassan, was passed at the MDP national council on Saturday night.
November 17 marks two years since President Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.
The demands made at the October 3 rally in Male'
- Repeal constitutional amendments chaining MPs to the ruling party.
- Stop looting State Owned Enterprises
- Pay pending bills to private companies within five weeks
- Bring back the decentralization system
- Repeal media control law and ensure medicine through Aasandha
The opposition party has also demanded the immediate release of six protesters who remain in police custody.
More than 2,500 people joined the October 3 rally and demanded Muizzu's resignation after the police stopped them from marching across the city.
