The Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) has called for an investigation into death threats made against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa.
The association called on the relevant authorities to investigate the threats and ensure safety and security for Fiyaz.
"MJA will formally lodge this case with the police, demanding that all necessary measures are taken," MJA stated.
An anonymous account on social media X threatened Fiyaz and said, "If it were me, I would kill you."
The MJA said threats against journalists have surged, "particularly those from outlets critical of the government and those involved in the advocacy campaign against the 'Media Control Bill'."
The association called on the police to take additional measures to ensure the safety of journalists.
Fiyaz and other journalists have received similar death threats in the past.
Earlier this year, President Mohamed Muizzu phoned Fiyaz and threatened him. Police investigated the complaint against Muizzu, but filed it after saying there was no evidence.
