The parliament has rejected a privilege case submitted after Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel lied about an India Out t-shirt.
Khaleel was summoned on August 13 and MPs from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) questioned him about his views on the India Out movement.
Responding to a question from Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Khaleel said he attended an India Out rally, but had never worn an India Out t-shirt.
Meekail filed the parliamentary privilege case against Khaleel and said a photo circulating on social media shows Khaleel wearing an India Out t-shirt.
He accused the minister of lying to the People's Majlis. The photo shows Khaleel wearing a face mask at an India Out rally during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) MPs rejected the motion during Tuesday morning's session.
During the questioning session last week, Khaleel refused to respond to some questions and Meekail repeatedly raised objections.
The Speaker later called out his name and the opposition MP was removed from the parliament floor.
