Three rescued after boat sinks near reef

Three people have been rescued after a boat ran aground on a reef and sank near Alif Dhaal Dhihgiri island.

Police said they received reports of the incident at around 5:34 am. The Al Majra boat was travelling from Male' to Thaa Veymandhoo.

A police team from Vaavu atoll travelled to the location of the incident and found three people stranded on the reef.

The three people were taken to Vaavu Felidhoo and they are in good medical condition. They were one Maldivian and two Bangladeshi men.

Police said the boat was carrying PVC boards and other equipment when it sank. They have advised travellers in the area to be vigilant.
