President Mohamed Muizzu has said his policy is to maintain close relations with all countries and that can only be done if all individuals in the country move forward in the same direction and with the same mindset.
Addressing the nation at the Independence Day ceremony held at the Social Center on Sunday morning, Muizzu said everyone has a responsibility to pass on the independence to future generations.
“Patriotism can only be promoted if we work individually to protect, preserve and convey the independence of the country, my main message, appeal, request is that,” he said in the nearly seven-minute speech.
He noted that past governments had worked to protect freedom but individuals must take responsibility too.
"It is my policy to maintain friendly and close relations with all other countries in everything that benefits the Maldives," Muizzu stated.
"This can also be achieved when everyone determines to fulfill their responsibilities. If different people go in different directions, the country will not survive," he said.
He assured that the government's “preparations” for development projects will be seen across the country in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the President conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on MP Qasim Ibrahim. He previously received the Honour of the Order of the Dignified Rule of Muleege Dynasty.
He also conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on Hassan Sobir for his exceptional service across key sectors of the national economy, including tourism, fisheries, and agriculture.
Former Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan was also conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin for his outstanding contributions to strengthening the judiciary of the Maldives.
