The Indian government has indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with the leaders of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) during his visit to the Maldives.
Modi will arrive in the Maldives on July 25 to attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations as the guest of honour. He will leave the country on July 26.
At a press conference at the External Affairs Ministry, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that arrangements were being made for meetings with Modi.
He said this in response to a question about whether the Prime Minister would meet the opposition during his visit to the Maldives.
Adhadhu understands that Modi is expected to meet MDP leaders, former President Mohamed Nasheed and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Modi will be the first Head of State to visit the country during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration. This is his third visit to the Maldives.
