Nasheed and Fayyaz meet some MDP members

Former President Mohamed Nasheed and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail held a meeting with some party members on Tuesday night.

The closed meeting was held at the OTP Restaurant to discuss next year's local council elections.

They also discussed the system of governance and the adoption of a preferential system in the election of a President.

An Adhadhu journalist who was present at the venue said around 150 to 200 MDP members attended the meeting.

Both Nasheed and Fayyaz had earlier expressed their interest in running for President in the 2028 presidential election.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and MP Ahmed Shamheed have also expressed their interest in running for President.

Nasheed, who currently lives in Ghana, arrived in Male' early on Monday night. He rejoined the MDP on June 23.
