Justice Abdulla Hameed has taken over the responsibilities of the Chief Justice.
Hameed was removed from the High Court bench on June 6, 2022, for accepting flats offered by the government to selected judges without a proper announcement.
Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb told police that the government at the time decided to give flats to judges to make sure courts ruled in their favour.
Hameed was appointed to the Supreme Court after two justices were unlawfully removed from the bench.
Two seats on the Supreme Court bench became vacant following the dismissal of Justices Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir. They were accused of influencing the Criminal Court judges.
The parliament's counsel general declared that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) investigation against them was unlawful.
The JSC also investigated Justice Hunsu Suood. But he resigned to protest against the intimidation of judges by the government.
The investigations against the justices came after the top court accepted a constitutional case on MP disqualification.
