Adhadhu has learnt that today is the last day in office for Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.

Adhadhu understands that a special farewell has been planned at the Supreme Court to say goodbye to the outgoing Chief Justice.

Muthasim sent a letter to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on May 8 to inform about his decision to retire.

JSC Secretary General Aminath Nadha told Adhadhu that the judicial oversight body decided to accept his request on Thursday.

Earlier in February, Muthasim hinted he would be retiring soon.

"It is likely that I might not be seen in this capacity in such events," he stated.

This is Muthasim's second term in the Supreme Court. He first served as a Supreme Court justice from August 10, 2010, to 2014. He was appointed to the top court bench for a second time and sworn in as the Chief Justice on December 8, 2019.

Muthasim decided to retire amid government attempts to dismiss two Supreme Court justices. They were Mahaz Ali Zahir and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir.
